This website introduces you to the Abbeyfield Camden (Jewish) Society.  There are two houses in North West London under our umbrella, run according to progressive Jewish tradition, observing Friday nights, keeping the Festivals, and encouraging active participation in Jewish life.

Our lovely houses are classified as "very sheltered" housing. The resident housekeeper cooks and serves lunch and an evening meal; residents can prepare their breakfast and snacks in their rooms.  We provide a room cleaning and laundry service. Residents can come and go as they please, with their own room and front door keys. They can entertain visitors and family at any time.

The Abbeyfield Camden (Jewish) Society provides residential accommodation where older people who would appreciate a little help and who might be unable or unwilling to live alone can find support and companionship without losing their independence and privacy.  Each house is close to local shops and the many normal services one would expect in a community.

No Council tax, no water rates no house insurance, no maintenance costs, no hassle, no officialdom, no cleaning of bathrooms, kitchen, corridors or lounges; no mowing the grass, digging, painting and cleaning - Abbeyfield's very sheltered housing postpones or prevents the onset of high dependency - real care in the community.  At Abbeyfield older people keep control of their lives, able to be private or sociable at will. Like the best of families, residents have a great deal of personal space and the freedom to express their individuality of style and purpose.

Meals are taken in the pleasant communal lounge-dining room, where residents can also watch TV - although most also have a TV in their room. The houses are centrally heated throughout, and there is a washing machine and drier which may be used by the residents at the discretion of the Housekeeper. Each house also has a large well-maintained garden for residents and their visitors to enjoy.

The garden at Bushey

"In February my mother moved to her beautiful "brand new bedsit", warm, cosy, with a lovely en suite shower room & view over a garden, and overnight her life has changed dramatically. Suddenly there were lovely new companions all like-minded to talk to, and the residents say "they feel like one family".

People are encouraged to come & go just as they like; you have your own front door key, but the difference is that when you come back, you do not come to an empty flat, there are people and laughter and companionship. My mother has said that it was the best thing I ever suggested to her, and I never thought I would hear those words."
